What is a Certified Behavior Technician?

The Role

Behavior Technicians provide in-home and in-clinic services for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our behavior technicians provide 1:1 support according to a treatment plan under the regular supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. Treatment plan goals may include communication, socialization, play, and analysis of challenging behavior to provide alternative ways to meet needs. Ongoing professional training is provided by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. 

 

  • Work directly with children either in home or daycare
  • Teach communication, social, and play skills using ABA evidence-based strategies as written in the treatment plan
  • Take data on all programs as directed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst
  • Maintain confidentiality of all clients and follow HIPAA guidelines 
  • Write accurate and detailed notes of sessions

Requirements

  1. Walking, occasional running, standing, sitting on the floor or chair, kneeling, crouching, bending with children 
  2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion 
  3. Ability to always attend to client safety 

Qualifications

  1. Certified Behavior Technician License 
  2. CPR Certified with Hands on Training
  3. High School Diploma
  4. Driver’s License, Auto Insurance, and Reliable Transportation 
  5. Background Check 
  6. Experience Working with Children

Certification Process

So you want to become certified...

Complete 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician Training from Relias Academy 


Obtain BLS/CPR for Healthcare Workers Certificate. The card must include a "hands-on" component in order to be valid.   

  • We recommend Grit City CPR 


Obtain National Provider Identification Number (NPI) 

  • Instructions: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/assets/How_to_apply_for_an_NPI_online.pdf  
  • Go to : NPPES (hhs.gov)  
  • Create an account and apply for NPI number  
  • Use taxonomy as 106S00000X and use 600 Kitsap Street, Port Orchard, Washington 98366, as the practice location.
